Minor

Services for Lynda Verlene Minor, 67, of Rockdale will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Phillips & Luckey Chapel with John Menges officiating. Private burial will be in Houston National Cemetery.

Mrs. Minor died Monday, June 11, at her home in Rockdale.

She was born Jan. 5, 1945, in Taylor to John William and Vida Marie (Simmons) Ward.

She married Albert Minor on Feb. 20, 1963, in Houston.

They lived in various places during Albert’s nine years in the U.S. Marine Corps and settled in Rockdale 38 years ago.

Mrs. Minor was one of the first seven women hired to work in the Alcoa plant in 1974, where she worked as a millwright for eight years.

At the age of 46, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She became an LVN, receiving her license from Temple College and spent the majority of her career at Winnie L. Nursing Facility in Cameron.

Mrs. Minor enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR and baseball, playing Bingo and spending time with family and friends.

She was a member of the Texas State Guard and VFW Post No. 2025.

Mrs. Minor was preceded in death by her mother, Vida Dismukes; her father, Sam Ward; and her stepfather, James Dismukes Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Albert A. Minor of Rockdale; a son, Robert C. Minor and wife Sherri of New Baden; two daughters, Brenda S. Garza and husband Gene of Rockdale, Stacey L. Richter of Houston; two brothers, Ronald E. Ward and wife Darlene of Van, James B. Dismukes Jr. and wife Kimberly of Austin; and a sister, Margie Ann Ruiz of Austin; also, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Newton, Robert K. Mayle, James Behrends, John Zacheck, Austin Miller and Kyle Dismukes.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
