Orr

Services for Bob Orr, 90, were held Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Phillips & Luckey Chapel, with the family conducting services. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Orr died Wednesday, June 6, in Richards Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born March 15, 1922, in Agua Dulce to Robert Samuel and Daisy Mae (Lynn) Orr.

Mr. Orr entered the U.S. Army as a trainee to be a tank driver. He was discharged and became a heavy equipment operator in Bandera.

He married Marjorie Mac- Naughton on April 1, 1945, at First Baptist Church in Medina.

They opened a bakery while in Bandera, then moved to Victoria where Bob worked construction and was hired by Alcoa in Port Lavaca.

Later they moved to Jewitt and began ranching, while commuting to Rockdale to work at Alcoa. He was supervisor of the construction of homes in Rockdale’s Westwood Addition and worked as a master carpenter for Alcoa.

Around 1951, they moved to Rockdale and were founding members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Orr was active in building the Tabernacle for the Highland Lakes Baptist Encampment. He built a greenhouse in Rockdale and grew mums in several different colors for local flower shops.

They enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states and several continents. Mr. Orr’s fishing excursions took him to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Alaska, Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, on Oct. 17, 2010; a son, Robert Orr Jr., on July 7, 1976; and a sister, Ella Mary Ann Orr Smith, in 2010.

Sur v ivors are a daughter, Betty Margaret Orr Ferguson and husband Willard L. of Rockdale; his grandchildren, Matthew Robert Ferguson and wife Cortney of Caldwell, Bethany Leann Ferguson of Austin, Abbie Larissa Ferguson of Round Rock; two great-granddaughters, Ella Glynn Ferguson and Shepard Aneese Ferguson, both of Caldwell.

Pallbearers were Alan Noack, Steven Noack, Jeff Noack, Kenneth Ba xter, Nor vel K illion, A r ma ndo Mora a nd Sammy Smith.
