Westbrook Westbrook Local residents receive degrees at Texas State

SAN MARCOS—The following local residents were among the degree candidates at the 2012 spring commencement ceremonies at Texas State University.

Megan C. Elliott, of Lexington, received a bachelor’s degree in Biology.

John W. Gilchrist, of Thorndale, received a bachelor’s degree in geography-resource and environmental studies.

Joe Sanders among honor roll athletes

WICHITA FALLS—Midwestern State University placed 50 student-athletes on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll released by league officials Thursday.

The list includes Joe Sanders, Mustang football wide receiver, a junior, son of Allen and Shelley Sanders of Rockdale. Sanders is majoring in business.

To be eligible for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 GPA for the current academic year and be active on the roster.

Area students make Texas State Dean’s list

SAN MARCOS—The following local residents have been named to the spring 2012 Dean’s List at Texas State University-San Marcos:

Rockdale—Ashley C. Randall, Larissa Nicole Bland, Nadine E. Oliver, Braden Ray Byrd and Kelsey L. Teague.

Thorndale—Kimberly M. Barrios, Veronica K. Page.

To be named to the Dean’s List at Texas State, a student must earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 while carrying a class load of at least 12 semester hours.

Milano’s Dykes on Iowa Lakes College honor list

ESTHERVILLE, IOWA—Ashleigh Dykes, of Milano, has been named to the Dean’s List at Iowa Lakes Community College for the spring 2012 semester.

To obtain a spot on the list, full-time students must have achieved a 3.25 grade point average or better.

Westbrook top grad at Brackett High School

BRACKETT—Grant Westbrook is Brackett High School’s valedictorian for the Class of 2012.

We stbro ok , formerly of Milano, is the son of Robert and K imberly Westbrook.

He will be attending Texa s A & M Un iversit y in the fa ll where he will be studying biomedical sciences.

Baylor University names locals to honor lists

WACO—The following area students have been named to the spring 2012 Dean’s Academic Honor List at Baylor University:

Lexington—Nole A Oppermann, College of Arts and Sciences.

Caldwell—Lindsey Lee Hicks, College of Arts and Sciences; Annalesha Roshan Sims, College of Arts and Sciences.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Summer lists available for AP English classes

All incoming Rockdale High School students who w ill be enrolled in Pre-AP or AP English classes w ill be expected to complete a summer reading assignment before the beginning of the 2012-13 school year, Paige Garrett, head of the English department at RHS, has announced.
