FFA group busy during summer break

Hi, I’m Jon Machac the Rockdale FFA Reporter and I’m going to be giving you all of your Rockdale FFA updates this year. We’re looking forward to an exciting year, and I hope some of you Rockdale High School students will be looking into joining our great organization.

No matter what grade you’re in, whether you’re an incoming freshman or even a senior, it’s never too late to join. The FFA is a great and fun organization to be a part of. The FFA is about hard work and dedication and it is not just for farmers.

Also, I encourage students in third through eighth grades to join Junior FFA. I hope you’ll look into us and see what we’re all about. I enjoy being a part of the FFA and I know you will too.

On another note, we’ve got a couple of things going on this summer. First of all, major steer validation at 7 a.m. Monday, June 25 at Arledge feed lot. Also, the Texas State FFA Convention is coming up on July 9-13. Just something for you current FFA members to look forward to, I know I’m excited.

Next up, if you are showing lambs, goats or pigs at the Rockdale Fair, the tag-in dates for those animals is July 14. Also if you happen to be going to the State Fair, those entries are due Aug. 24.

Another thing I would like to mention, this year the Rockdale FFA is looking for local businesses to support us.

We want every student enrolled in an agriculture education class to have a T-shirt, so that they can belong to an organization and have a shirt to feel unified as members.

If you choose to support us, your logo will go on the back of every shirt distributed.

That is it for our summer activities. I hope you enjoyed reading our summer update this week and I hope you enjoy your summer too.

The Rockdale Fair rules can be found at milam.agrilife.org, and if anyone needs assistance in locating an animal or wants more information about Junior FFA, please contact Amanda Grigsby at agrigsby@rockdaleisd.net.
