Thorndale hosting 22nd BBQ event this weekend

Pageant, softball, arts, all part of the festivities

T HOR N DA L E—The 22nd annual Thorndale Firemen’s BBQ Cookoff is set for Thursday through Sunday at Thorndale City Park.

The weekend will kick off with the 32nd annual Thorndale Revue at 7 p.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria.

During that event the new Miss Thorndale will be crowned.

A softball tourney unreels Friday through Sunday.

Barbecue cookof f categories are brisket, pork ribs and chicken, plus Jackpot Beans and Cook’s Choice. For the second straight year, there will be a Margarita contest, at 9 p.m. Friday.

Saturday is the big day with events scheduled as follows:

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Arts and crafts and food booths.

10-10:30 a.m.—Registration for junior washer pitching (ages 11-14), Fireman’s Hall, competition at 11.

10-11 a.m.—Registration for 42 Tourney, Fireman’s Hall, competition at 11.

10:30-11 a.m.—Registration for senior washer pitching, Fireman’s Hall, competition at 12-noon.

11 a.m.—Thorndale VFD Auxiliary turkey and dressing dinner, Fireman’s Hall.

11:30 a.m.—Opening ceremonies presenting the new Miss Thorndale and her court.

4 p.m.—Announcement of cookoff winners.

There will be dances at the City Park Pavilion: Friday, 8 p.m. to midnight, The Debonaires; Saturday, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., People’s Choice.

Tickets will be $10 at the gate for all (ages 5 and under free).

Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

In event of bad weather, dances will be in the Fireman’s Hall.

At last year’s cookoff a home tow n team won the top t wo awards.

Blinde Kuh (Blind Cow) barbecue was named best overall team, a division composed of point totals from all other categories.

Blinde Kuh also won top showmanship honors.
