Parsley

Services for Martha Parsley, 69, of Rockdale are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Phillips & Luckey Chapel with Rev. Rita Sims of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parsley died Monday, June 18, at her home in Rockdale.

She was born April 23, 1943, in Gilmer to William Wyatt and Katie O’Neal (Coppedge) Breazeale.

Mrs. Parsley attended Kilgore Junior College and was crowned “Miss Ore City” at Lake of the Pines in 1962.

She married Harold Lee Parsley Jr. on Feb. 9, 1963, in Ore City.

They moved to Rockdale and purchased the Reel Drive In Theater where Martha was the “ticket taker.” They then purchased the Dixie Theater. The Parsleys also owned car washes in Rockdale, Caldwell, Taylor, Hearne and Rosebud.

Mr. Parsley taught school in Rockdale from 1973 to 1975, then opened Parsley Pullet Parlor in Rockdale, Bryan and Giddings.

The Parsleys opened Texas Fajita, where Martha visited and took orders, and Chicken Express.June 21, 2012

“MoMo” as she was affectionately called, fought Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis for 31 years.

She enjoyed being a mom and grandmother.

Mrs. Parsley played tennis with partners Peggy Cooke, Neva Caffey, Dana Caffey, Geri Burnett, Annette Griesbach and Kathie Bassler. She also informally taught many young people to swim in her pool at home.

Mrs. Parsley was an active member at St. John’s United Methodist Church and taught All-Star Sunday School Class. She was awarded Woman of the Year at St. John’s in 2010.

She was a member of Rockdale Reading Club, Rockdale Tennis Association, Bridge Club and a volunteer with the MARC Center.

Mrs. Parsley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jay Breazeale.

Survivors are her husband, Harold Parsley; a daughter, Kathryne Roddam and husband Ward of Rockdale; a son, Lee Parsley of Rockdale; two brothers, Glen Breazeale of Ore City, Frank and Annette Breazeale of Gilmer; and six grandchildren, Katie Roddam and fiancee Daniel Koeneke, Kassie Roddam, Kourtney Kay Roddam, Jake Parsley, Jaycee Parsley, Luke Parsley.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Koeneke, Corey Vorn Kahl, Brian Wallis, Dwayne David, Steven Glaser, Brian Ballard.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Earley, R.C. Wiley, Bill Avrett, Miller Bassler, Alan Johnston, Frank Breazeale and Glen Breazeale.
