VFW flag ceremony scheduled for Tuesday
VFW Post 6525 will hold a flag ceremony to observe Independence Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the VFW Post on west US 79.
Quartermaster James Adcock said the public is invited and refreshments will be served..
Medication, poison control sessions set
The Rockdale Multi-Service (Senior Citizen) Center will host a couple of programs next week, according to Carolyn Cooper, director.
At 9:30 a.m. Monday (July 9) the center will host a medication management program, presented by Scott & White Hospital.
From 9:20 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, the center will host a free poison control management seminar for seniors, sponsored by the Central Texas Poison Center and Scott & White Healthcare.
Patricipants will get free information and a souvenir magnet and snacks will be served, spokesperson Lorie Thibodeaux said,
“The center will be open regular hours for the Fourth of July on Wednesday,” Cooper said.
‘Brown Santa’ golf tourney set this month
The second annual Brow n Santa Golf Tourney will be held at t he C ameron C ou ntry Club July 21, according to Sheriff David Greene.
Last year’s tourney drew 94 golfers, over 50 hole sponsors and raised around $5,000 to provide Christmas gifts to 300 children in over 100 families.
Deputy Sheriff John Mendoza said the tourney will begin with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Format will be a 4-to-6-man scramble. “You don’t have to be on a team to play,” he said. “We are encouraging all interested persons to come out, play and have a great time for a great cause.”
To enter, RSVP to Mendoza at 254-627-1270 or 254-697-7033 with team info and whether a cart will be needed.
“You can also sign up at the Cameron Country Club,” he said.
Deadline to enter is July 14.
Cost is $50 per person, which includes green fees, a goody bag and snacks.
Mendoza said the tourney is also accepting hole sponsorships at $100 per hole.
Milano trustees to hire Westbrook on July 11th
MILANO—Milano school trustees have set July 11 as the official date to formally hire new superintendent Robert Westbrook. Following the 5 p.m. July 11 meeting, a cookie and punch reception will be held for Westbrook in the MHS cafeteria.
Also during the meeting, board members:
• Approved job descriptions for the boys and girls athletic coordinator positions;
• Approved student transfers for the 2012-13 school year;
• Accepted resignations from Jayce Rasberry, social studies/ coach; Robbie Robinson, social studies/coach; Celina Ramos, high school English; Cathy Brown, counselor; Stephanie Longoria, elementary principal;
• Hired Jayla Mohr, high school Spanish teacher.
Monthly line flushing scheduled for July 18th
The monthly water line flushing by City of Rockdale crews has been set for Wednesday, July 18, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.
Knauf said hydrants will be flushed in all areas of town.
He reminded Rockdale residents to run their cold water taps upon arising the next morning until the stream runs clear.
Runoff election early voting to start July 23rd
Early voting for the July 31 Republican and Democratic Primary runoff elections will beg in Ju ly 23 and conclude July 27.
Locations will be the Rockdale Regional Juvenile Justice Center, Milam County Clerk’s Office in Cameron, Thorndale Fireman’s Hall and the Buckholts Community Center.
On July 31, Milam County’s 11 voting precincts will be consolidated into four boxes.
