TACC changes dates of spring events

Commerce (TACC) met for its regular monthly meeting on June 27 at the chamber building in downtown Thorndale. Following the minutes, financial report and committee reports, the directors reviewed the events of the past several days.

The Miss Thorndale Revue was analyzed and twenty-eight entries plus the Miss Thorndale entries was deemed a successful event. Kelbi Kovar is the new Miss Thorndale for 2012. She will receive a $500 scholarship to any institution of higher education upon meeting the requirements of the scholarship. Congratulations to Kelbi and the TACC would like to thank Cara Goetz, Miss Thorndale 2011, for a job well done.

The winner of the TACC quilt raffle was Guthrie Cleaners and the winning ticket was sold at Butts Dry Goods. Congratulations to the w inner and the funds from this activity will go toward the Outstanding Student Scholarships for 2012.

Thanks once again to quilt c ommit tee member s Sa ra h Beard, Donna Johnston and Rosalie Biar for their expertise in constructing the quilt. Thanks also to Donna Johnston of Quilting by Donna Lou for the finish work on the quilt.

In other business, the TACC discussed several new activities. Louis Alvarez represented the TACC at the El Camino Real Trade Days inaugural meeting at Apache Pass. Plans were made to begin a yearly event to draw trade along the new national trail running through Thorndale and Milam County with a tentative start date for October.

The El Camino Real National Historic Trail is one of seventeen national trails and runs from Louisiana through Milam County on to San Antonio and Mexico. The trail is nearing completion of the actual route and Milam County will be the first county to receive signage denoting the sites on the trail.

Plans were also discussed concerning a street dance currently scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13 and to include a Halloween theme. Look for more information in the near future.

Zumba classes by Audrey Gamble were given a renewal on their contract to meet on Tuesday and Thursday at the TACC building. The Country Squares square dance group was also approved to meet at the TACC building on Thursday nights.

The TACC voted to revamp the Car/Quilt/Arts and Craft Shows and Louis Run for 2013. The Louis Run will be held on March 23. This will be the only event on that date. The Car/Quilt/Arts and Craft Shows will be moved to April 20.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
