LaGrone back in the fold, on staff in Milano
Former head football coach Chad LaGrone was hired by the MISD school board Monday night to mark his return to the school.
As of his hiring Monday, LaGrone’s coaching assignments were yet to be determined.
LaGrone, 43, led the Eagles to their first 10-win season in school history in 1999 as well as backto back district titles in 1999 and 2000.
After Milano’s 10-1 season in 1999, LaGrone was named the Class A Coach of the Year by Texas Football Magazine..
In eight years at Milano, LaGrone was 44-38, the most wins by any Milano coach.
LaGrone was also the head girls basketball (for one year) and girls softball coach during his tenure.
The Eagles have gone 18-6 over the past two seasons, including 10-2 in 2011.
LaGrone, a 1987 Milano graduate, has spent the past eight years at Gause, where he re-started the football program that had been dormant since the 1950s.
Dozens of his players have played for the Eagles during that span.
With new superintendent Robbie Westbrook in place (he was officially hired Wednesday night), Milano is looking to hire one more coach.
The Eagles are looking to have new head coaches in boys basketball, boys baseball and girls basketball and tennis following the resignations of Robbie Robinson, Jayce Rasberry and Virginia Beard.
Milano has also split up athletic director duties, naming Jentsch as boys coordinator and long-time volleyball coach Wendy King as girls coordinator.
