‘SKYWALKER’


Reporter/Mike Brown Reporter/Mike Brown Sure it’s hot but he’s helping to preserve one of Rockdale’s most historic buildings and the view is not bad either. Victor Vargas of The Roofer Plus patches the roof of the 19th-Century Rockdale Hardware Building downtown on North Main with the I&GN Depot Museum in the background. The former Pearson Hardware store was damaged by a July 5, 2007, fire but was saved by quick work by the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department. Owner Bob Tovar told The Reporter the goal is to protect and preserve the building until such time as it can be used again commercially. The three-story building is one of downtown Rockdale’s tallest and oldest.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
