Milano Opry on stage Saturday

M ilano Opry will be held on Saturday, July 21 at the Milano High School with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the show getting underway at 7. Cost is $7 per person, with children 10 and under free.

This month’s guests are Lorna Wilhelm and A.T. Shuffield. Concessions available include hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches and of course, homemade pies.

A special “Celebration 100” event is set for Friday, July 27 at the Milano Civic Center in honor of the Bailey Bank Building’s original opening on July 27, 1912. The Friends of the Bailey Bank Building group will host the event that will include music from lots of Milam County talent, along with food and fellowship.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. with admission $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. All funds raised will go towards turning the Bailey Bank Building into Milano city offices and a conference room available to the community.

The group is also selling tickets for a king size Yellow Rose coverlet and two matching pillow shams. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Drawing will be held at the July 27 event.

Milano United Method- ist Church will host VBS from July 23-25. Times are 9 a.m. to noon.

Girls entering sixth through eighth grades are inv ited to attend a volleyball camp at the Milano High School gym July 23-26. Cost is $40 and will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Please text Wendy King at 512- 663-6539 if planning to attend with a T-shirt size.

The annual Milano ISD “open house” and “Meet the Eagles” night will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22. The open house at each campus will be held from 6-6:50 p.m., with the “Meet the Eagles”, an introduction of the fall sports teams and MISD staff, will be held at 7 p.m. in the MHS gym.

School is not in session, but you should still be saving your “Box Tops for Education.” The Milano PATCH Club, the local parent-teacher organization, collects the box tops to get free money for our schools. The Milano Ex-Students Association reunion and luncheon will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at Milano High School. A catered meal will be served at noon. It is also the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1962. For more information on the reunion, contact Carolyn Hafley, 512-455-2473.

There was a great turn out at the reception held for newly hired MISD superintendent Robbie Westbrook. We welcome home Robbie, wife Kim and children Kayla and Grant.
