‘Make the most of what we are doing today’

“D on’t waste life in doubts and fears; spend yourself on the work before you, well assured that the right performance of this hour’s duties will be the best preparation for the hours and ages that will follow.”— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Too many times we spend all of our efforts focusing on the future when if we would spend more time in the present, our future would surely benefit. As a community it is important to look ahead but to also take advantage and make the most of what we are doing today. Vision is important but will never become a reality without action today.

—If you are a business or an individual who is not a member of the chamber but would like to be, please call me at 512- 446-2030 and let me show you the benefits of being a chamber member. The chamber needs a business to host the July mixer. If you are interested, please call or email me.

ESTELL BOOK—Dr. Lucile Estell has written a book titled, “Images of America–Rockdale.” The Depot will be hosting a book signing with Dr. Estell from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 29. Books will be available to purchase that day and they are also available to sell at the chamber office.

TEEN NIGHT—The Fair Park Association is hosting “Teen Night” at the Fair Park on August 9th. There will be many activities and fun to be had by all so put that event on your calendar and take your teen.

SHOE DRIVE—We are also helping Meadowbrook Baptist Church with their annual shoe drive for our school kids. This is kicking off now and we will collect new shoes thru July so if you find a good deal pick up a pair and bring it by or stop by with your monetary donation.

If you are in need of shoes for your child, you can call the chamber at 446-2030 with gender and size information. Pick up will be at the Meadowbrook Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9.

OUTDOOR EXPO—The Chamber is gearing up for its second annual Central Texas Hunting and Outdoor Expo which will be Sept. 21-22. We are so excited that our feature band this year will be the famous, “Little Texas”. You will not want to miss this event.

We are taking applications for vendors and barbecue teams. So get your spot as soon as possible. I will also be coming to see many of my business owners for sponsorships. We expect huge crowds so I know we are all looking forward to that.

I hope you all have a great holiday week.
