Dates for 2012-13 creditby exam announced

Rockdale ISD, in compliance with TEA requirements and RISD Board Policy EEJB, has established policies and procedures for credit-by-exam for acceleration in grades K-12. Students and/or parents who want to consider an accelerated progression through school should visit with the campus principal or counselor.

On all campuses, specific criteria must be met. Students must achieve a certain score(s) on a criterion-referenced exam(s). In addition, the student’s parent or guardian must give written approval of the proposed acceleration and the campus principal must also concur.

In grades K-5, the student must score 90 percent or above on a criterion referenced test for the grade level to be skipped in each of the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

In grades 6-12, the student can receive credit for an academic subject in which the student has received no prior instruction if the student scores 90 percent or above on a criterion-referenced examination for acceleration. Students scoring 90 percent or better will receive that examination score as the course grade on the academic record.

Test dates for the 2012-13 school year have been scheduled as follows: Sept. 4-6 and May 14-16. Since the exams may be ordered from outside sources, the deadline to request testing for fall 2012 is Aug. 3 and spring 2013 is April 12.

Campus principals and counselors have the forms required for submit- ting a request for credit-by-exam for acceleration. Please consult the principals or counselors at RISD for more information on this subject.
