Blood drive honoring Dustin Pickel set Aug. 26

St. John’s United Methodist Church will host a Rockdale community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 in honor of 2-year-old cancer patient Dustin Pickel.

Dustin, son of Jeff and Kelly Pickel of Round Rock, is undergoing chemotherapy at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin. His maternal grandparents are John and Sharon Shoemake of Rockdale.

The Blood Center of Central Texas will conduct the blood drive. To sign up to donate, call Eva Strong, 936- 828-7306.

Forest Grove Christian revival week of July 30

Forest Grove Christian Church will hold revival services nightly at 7 p.m. during the week of July 30, according to Minister Lance Walsh.

The revival speaker will be Mark Worley, vice-president for community at Dallas Christian College.

“The public is invited to come every night to hear God’s word proclaimed and to learn more about the awesome love God has for us,” Minister Walsh said.

First Christian VBS set July 29 through Aug. 2

Vacation Bible School at First Christian Church, 231 Burleson Street, will be held July 29 to Aug. 2. Registration will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29. VBS will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each night. FMI, call the church office, 446-5090.

Meadowbrook sponsors ‘Shoes for School’ drive

Meadowbrook Baptist Church is sponsoring a Shoes for School drive to help students in need to go back to school in new shoes.

Tax-exempt donations can be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church for the cause. Shoe donations can be dropped off at the church or the Chamber of Commerce office.

Sign- up for the shoes will be required so that correct sizes are bought. Parents whose children need shoes should call either 446-3367 (Meadowbrook) or the Chamber (446- 2030) to list the shoe sizes needed.

Collection will continue through July and distribution will be Thursday, Aug. 6 at the church fellowship hall.

St. John’s VBS Aug. 6-8: ‘Operation Overboard’

Vacation Bible School, with the theme “Operation Overboard,” will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6-8 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, a joint VBS with Peace Lutheran Church. Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited. FMI, call the church office, 446-5853.

San Gabriel Baptist gospel singing Saturday

San Gabriel Baptist Church will host an old-fashioned gospel singing at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28 featuring congregational singing, solos and instrumental specials of convention and contemporary gospel music.

Next men’s breakfast Aug. 14 at St. John’s UMC

An ecumenical Christian men’s breakfast fellowship is held from 7 to 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the location rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be held on Aug. 14 in the fellowship hall of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

“Purpose of the breakfast is Christian fellowship and all men of the area are invited to attend,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

RSBC women’s study
