‘Walk Across Texas’ winning teams log 5,145 miles in 8 weeks

The top two teams that participated in the Walk Across Texas this spring walked a total of 5,145.28 miles in eight weeks. The eight member teams walked the distance across Texas several times in building an exercise habit.

The first place team included, team captain Connie Schielack, Gaye Bland, Jamie Hatcher, Scott Laws, Julie Loth, Harry Schielack, Lance Schielack and Melissa Turnage. They walked a total of 3,662.78 miles.

The second place team included, team captain Eula Holt, Tracey Dameron, Dorothy Guine, Derrick Holt, Tonya Madsen, Lois Rodgers, Rosie Steamer, and Shirley Taylor. They walked 1,482.5 miles.

CHILD CARE PROVIDER CONFERENCE—Attention child care providers, if you are needing clock hours for your career, an area Child Care Provider Conference will be conducted on Aug. 18 in Caldwell. The cost is $50 for late registration. The registration fee covers the workshop, refreshments, lunch and handouts.

This conference is geared for child care providers, center directors, assistant directors, home care providers, students and parents. This quality conference will feature workshops addressing: child growth and development; guidance and discipline; teacher-child interaction; care of children with special needs.

Also, child health; safety and risk management; minimum standards and how they apply to the caregiver; recognizing and preventing shaken baby syndrome; preventing sudden infant death syndrome; cultural diversity for children and families; planning developmentally appropriate learning activities.
