Remodel permits big money in July

Rockdale Building Materials, Kay Theatre apply for big permits


Rockdale Building Materials, located at 108 S. Main Street, was issued permits totaling $109,200 for the month of July by city hall. Documents listed a new roof and remodel as needs for the permits.

Reporter/Marie Bakken Rockdale Building Materials and the Kay Theatre, both located on Main Street but on either side of US 79 applied for large remodel permits during July according to reports from Rockdale city hall.

Rockdale Building Materials hired Butch Malone to put on a new roof valued at $109,200 early in July. Another permit was issued last week to begin a $100,000 remodel at the company.

The Kay Theatre group has begun another phase of its remodel for the 1940s- era building. The permit issued cited $37,000 in improvement during this phase.

The project is an ongoing effort to restore the building for use as a community center and performing arts venue.

Permit numbers were actually down for the month, with $175,552 issued in June, compared to $225,565.11 in June.

July’s numbers bring the fiscal year’s total, which started in October 2011, to $988,505.11.

The 2012 calendar year total is now at $893,455.11.

Permits are issued at City Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.

Bell, reroof; Barbara Kelly, 320 E. 5th, house level; Butch Malone for Lydia Lopez, 331 E. Bell, reroof; Royce Hudson, 1409 Alcoa, car port 12x15; A. Lozano for Waymar Enterprises, 1301 W. Cameron, three signs (4x8); Rockdale Signs for Miller Starnes Chevrolet, 524 W. Cameron, 4x8 sign; Lisa Juarez, 419 N Rice, fence; Joe Barbo for Durwood Mynar, 1203 Alcoa, carport.
