Democrats gather in Rockdale

Milam County hosted a daylong grass-roots training session Saturday for county-level Democratic Party officials in Senate District 5 at the United Steelworkers Local 4895 Union Hall, according to Richard Stone, county chair.

The session was hosted by the Milam County Democratic Party and Democratic Women.

Dr. Fannie Lovelady-Spain, a precinct chair, moderated a session for new precinct officials that included Texas State Democratic Party Executive Director Bill Brannon, Polk County Democratic Chairwoman Sharon Teal, Carolyn White, precinct chair from Robertson County, and Brian Hamon, SD5 Committeeman.

The workshop also featured a session on finance lead by Shellie Lyon, a Robertson County Precinct Chair, Kyle DeBeer, campaign manager for Democratic House candidate Robert Stem, and Larry Yawn, a party leader from Williamson County. Meghan Stabler, of Williamson County, gave the lunchtime session.

Sondra Haltom, a state party trainer, discussed get-out-thevote strategies with House District candidates from the Brazos County area, Robert Stem and Judy LeUnes, along with Keith Hampton, candidate for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, were all given opportunities to speak.

Melody Dawson, SD 5 Committeewoman from Rockdale, organized the session.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
