Jones named principal by Milano ISD trustees

MILANO—Brad Jones, a former Milano High School principal was named the districts secondary (grades 6-12) principal last week by MISD trustees.

Jones, who was employed by the MISD for 13 years before moving to Iraan six years ago, replaces Greg Decker, who has accepted a position with Eastland ISD.

Trustees also hired elementary teachers Rebecca Telg, Sally Ihlenfeldt and Kathy Pustejovsky, secondary teachers Sara Ely and Bridget Barfield and secondary teacher/coach Russell McCoy.

Courtney Todd was reassigned from teacher to director of student services.

In addition to Decker, resignations were accepted from teachers Monica Whiteley, Katrina Cottenoir, Scott Cottenoir and Laci Youree and paraprofessionals April Hughes and Michele Decker.

MDD hears update on master plan progress

Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) members met in regular session Thursday at City Hall and heard an update on the downtown master plan now being prepared for the Rockdale Downtown Association.

Tom Manskey, MDD executive director, said feedback from downtown businesses obtained in preparing the master plan continues to focus on the appearance of downtown Rockdale as the key to revitalizing the area.

“That’s a key toward making downtown Rockdale a destination, providing a reason for people to stop instead of passing through,” he said.

TxDOT Aviation seeks new plan for airport

The City of Rockdale is partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to help create the first-ever airport development plan for H. H. Coffield Regional Airport.

Rick Bryant, project manager for Airport Development Group Inc., said a limited number of community volunteers are being sought to sit on an advisory committee.

Committee members will be notified of the projects kickoff meeting scheduled for late August.

Water line flushing slated for August 15th

City of Rockdale crews will flush water lines in all sections of the city Wednesday, Aug. 15, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

He asked residents to run their cold water taps upon arising the next morning until the stream runs clear to flush sediment from the lines.

Blood drive scheduled for Peace Lutheran

Peace Lutheran Church will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the church fellowship hall, 303 Meadow Drive.

Jo Pruett, spokesperson, said persons wanting to donate may call 512-760-6703 or 512-446- 9600.

All August donors will receive a free donor T-shirt, and other premiums, including a chance to win a set of four Texas Rangers baseball tickets.

Mobile spay-neuter service slates visits

Emancipet Mobile Clinic will be at S&S Auto, 1901 West Cameron (next to Rockdale Federal Credit Union), on Tuesday, Aug. 14, offering spay and neuter services, low cost vaccinations and other preventatives for dogs and cats.

Spay/neuter services require appointments for that day. Minimum age and weight for those services is three months and three pounds.

Approximate costs for dogs is $65 to spay and $55 to neuter. For cats, to be spayed is $44 and to be neutered is $29.

Emancipet officials said all appointments for the Aug. 14 clinic are filled and a second visit had been set for Sept. 6.

Emancipet is also considering visiting Rockdale on a regular basis, perhaps the first Thursday every other month.
