Three Tigers named to TSWA state baseball squad

Brinkley 2nd team; Pounders, Stewart honorable mentions

Three Rockdale Tigers were named to the 58th annual Texas Sports Writers Association/ Collin Street Bakery Class 3A all-state baseball team last week.

Senior-to-be Ethan Brinkley was named to the second team outfield crews.

Tiger pitcher Tate Pounders and second baseman John Stewart were both honorable mentions. They both graduated from RHS in May.

Rockdale finished third in District 23-3A, losing in the area round of the playoffs to No. 2 Bridge City.

The Tiger trio are the sixth, seventh and eighth players, respectively, to be named allstate in the past five years. Weston Wick of LaGrange— the District 24-3A MVP was a first-team selection as a pitcher.

Pleasant Grove’s Timothy Buhanan and West’s Kolbey Carpenter shared player of the year honors. Both are pitchers.

Coach of the year honors went to Craig Jones of state champion Pleasant Grove.
