There was plenty of unexpected excitement at Rockdale Walmart during the noon hour Tuesday as a fire in this large surge protector filled the discount center with smoke and forced the building’s evacuation. Agenda rules changed after long discussion; lien waiver fails again
A fractured—and sometimes fractious—Rockdale City Council, changed the way it does business at council meetings Monday, seeking a way to make its public deliberations more efficient.
On a 4-2 split vote, following a lively and emotional discussion of almost an hour, the council voted to return to its pre-2009 way of placing items on its agenda. Full Story

Buckholts fires chief after investigation
‘Tampering’ charges pending in county
BUCKHOLTS—The Buckholts City Council fired Police Chief James Blackmon Thursday, with their decision announced following a closed session at City Hall.
Blackmon was charged on July 5 with falsifying paperwork in connection with appointment of officers to that North Milam County city’s police department. Full Story
Interior renovations continue at the Kay Theatre, a 1940s-era theatre venue being restored for use as a community and cultural center.
