Walmart Fire

There was plenty of unexpected excitement at Rockdale Walmart during the noon hour Tuesday as a fire in this large surge protector filled the discount center with smoke and forced the building’s evacuation. Volunteer firefighters Tra Muston (L) and Justin Betak extinguish the unit after it was dragged into the parking lot. Volunteer Brady Nelson Jr. was in Walmart when the building’s alarm system alerted emergency units and he quickly helped locate the smoke’s source. Two pumper units, numerous firefighters, police and an AMR unit responded. Smoke damage was reported. Walmart reopened about 5 p.m.
