Milano Opry will be tribute to Elvis

MILANO—The Milano Opry will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at Milano High School and the show will pay tribute to the late Elvis Presley.

“This show will be a tribute to Elvis and the 35th anniversary of his death,” publicist Lynn Martin said. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7. Admission is $7 with children age 10 and under admitted free.

Guests artist will be Jerry Baker, Michelle Swanson and Erin Vestal. House band members are Michael Herod, Billy Barnett, Ab Woods, Michael Wall, Will Fountain, Johnny Foster, Dave Roland and Lynn Martin.

“Come hungry as we will be serving barbecue sandwiches, hamburgers, fries and homemade pies along with drinks and snacks,” Martin said. “Bring the family and enjoy ‘a big show in a small town’.”

Music set for Saturday at Chriesman CC

CHRIESMAN—Jimmie Maze and the Milano Playboys will play at the Chriesman Community Center from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug 18, according to Royce Barber, publicist.

Admission is free and food is available. “The evening will feature traditional country music. No smoking or alcohol allowed,” he said.

Chriesman is located between Milano and Caldwell, off SH 36 on FM 1363.

Friday deadline for benefit cruise

MILANO—Deadline to register for a five-day cruise to benefit the Milano Ex-Students Association scholarship fund is Friday, Aug. 17.

VFW conducting school supply drive

VFW Post 6525 and its Ladies Auxiliary are conducting the 2012 Rockdale school supply drive for students who cannot otherwise afford them. Donations are needed.

Supplies may be taken to the VFW post home, 978 West US 79, or the Chamber of Commerce office, 1203 West Cameron Avenue.

Locklin Cemetery meeting Sept. 15th

THORNDALE¬≠— Locklin Cemetery Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Senior Citizens Center in Thorndale.

“Officers will be elected and a progress report will be heard on the cemetery beautification project remapping of the cemetery and other improvements,” said Nancy Graham, secretary.

Grief support group meetings in Cameron

Mini scholarships for Milano alumni

MILANO—The Milano Alumni Scholarship Committee is offering mini scholarships for the 2012 fall semester, according to Carolyn Hafley.

MHS graduates who have completed two semesters or more of college or trade school and will be enrolling for classes this fall are eligible to apply.

Sunshine quilters to meet Aug. 23rd

Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in fellowship hall of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
