Tigers take on first tuneup hosting Marlin

The Tigers host Marlin Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at Tigerland Field for their first scrimmage of summer two-a-days.

Marlin finished 5-6 in 2012 and is led by wide receiver Ladarian Hopwood under new coach Tim Hensley.

The Bulldogs are slated sixth in District 13-2A behind favorite Cameron.

The Tigers are coming off a two-game regular season sweep of Marlin in 2008-09.

With new offensive coordinator Hunter Hamrick, the Tigers will concentrate on offensive sets that feature a revved up passing attack with no-huddle.

On Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m., the Tigers will will travel to Robinson for their final tuneup before the season opener at Salado Aug. 31.

The annual “Meet the Tigers” social and cake auction will take place Friday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. at Tiger Gymnasium.

Junior high

Junior high practice begins Tuesday, Aug. 28 under the following schedule:

• 7th Grade—7 to 8:50 a.m.

• 8th Grade—2:51 to 4:40 p.m.

All athletes must have physicals and other paperwork turned in and on file in order to participate and get their equipment.

New coach

Miller has hired a new coach to replace the departed Jessica Gaines in Jennifer Keen, who had already been working as a teacher at the intermediate school.

Gaines left Rockdale in April for similiar coaching positions at Galveston Ball.

Keen will be a varsity assistant in basketball and volleyball.

Gaines, one of the most decorated athletes in RHS history, had been coaching at Rockdale for the past two years since graduating from Stephen F. Austin where she played basketball.
