RISD ‘Meet the Teacher’ nights set for Thursday

“Meet the Teacher” nights at RISD’s intermediate and elementary campuses have also been set, both for Thursday, Aug. 23.

The event will from 5-6:30 p.m. at the intermediate school with classrooms assignments and other informational booths available.

The elementary event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m.

Students at both campuses are encouraged to bring their school supplies to the “Meet the Teacher” events.

New system for RISD substitute teachers

Rockdale ISD is using an automated substitute service this year that greatly simplifies and streamlines the process of finding and managing substitute jobs in this district. This service, called Aesop, utilizes both telephone and internet to assist substitutes in locating jobs in the school district. The Aesop system is available 24 hours a day.

Rockdale ISD will provide training to all current substitutes on this new system 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in the RISD board room. The training is necessary for substitutes to be called and/or have access to the Aesop system in order to receive job assignments.

Training dates for new substitutes will be posted in September. Please call assistant superintendent of instruction and administration Pam Kaufmann, 512-430-6000, if you have any questions about substituting.

Central Office to be closed some this week

Rockdale ISD Central Office and campus offices will be closed some Wednesday and all of Friday, according to Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent of instruction and administration.

The office will be closed until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 and all day Friday, Aug. 24.

“All district staff wi ll be involved in staff development during those times,” Kaufmann said.

Rockdale ISD still taking PreK enrollment

Rockdale ISD is still offering open enrollment for its Pre-Kindergarten classes.

Children entering Pre K need to be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1.

Bring with you: child’s birth certificate, child’s immunization records, child’s social security card, your proof of Rockdale ISD residency (such as a current utility bill with your address on it) and copy of parent ID.

Locals earn degrees from Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION—Diplomas were awarded to approximately 1,700 Texas A&M University graduates during summer commencement ceremonies held Aug. 9 at Reed Arena.

Among those receiving degrees were local residents:

• Jamie F. Austin, of Rockdale, bachelor of science in kinesiology.

• Buck w ind B. Bak ken, of Milano, bachelor of science in sociology.

• Stephen B. Jones, of Rockdale, bachelor of arts in communication.

• Aaron P. Kleinschmidt, of Lexington, bachelor of science in genetics.

• Marcus C. McDermott, of Cameron, bachelor of science in bioenvironmental sciences.

• Amber L. Vecera, of Lexington, bachelor of arts in biology.

St. Paul 7th-8th grade sets fund-raiser

The St. Paul Lutheran School 7th and 8th grade classes will hold a barbecue chicken dinner fund-raiser Sunday, Aug. 26 at the Fireman’s Hall for their class trip to Washington D.C.

To go and dine-in plates will be available for $8, according to Lori Fisher, spokesperson for the event.

RJH band hot dog social September 11th at park

Rockdale Junior High band members will host a hot dog social on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Veterans Park starting at 6 p.m.

Plates will cost $3 each.

Band instrument drive scheduled Aug. 28th

Have an old band instrument you have been wanting to get rid of? Why not donate it to the RISD band program?

The Rockdale Junior High band will hold an instrument drive from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the RJH band hall.
