Blood drive honoring Dustin Pickel set Sunday

St. John’s United Methodist Church will host a Rockdale community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 in honor of 2-year-old cancer patient Dustin Pickel.

Dustin, son of Jeff and Kelly Pickel of Round Rock, is undergoing chemotherapy at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin. His maternal grandparents are John and Sharon Shoemake of Rockdale.

The Blood Center of Central Texas will conduct the blood drive. To sign up to donate, call Eva Strong, 936-828-7306.

St. John’s ‘Christian Education Sunday’

During its 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 worship service, St. John’s United Methodist Church plans a special time of prayer for its Sunday School teachers, staff in the public schools and school children.

“Christian Education Sunday” service will take a special moment to bless the children before they go back to school on Monday,” Rev. Rita Sims, pastor said.

“If you are part of the staff of the public schools or have a child entering school, please join St. John’s to receive a special blessing at the beginning of the school year,” Rev. Sims said.

St. John’s to hold garage sale Saturday, Sept. 8

St. John’s United Methodist Church plans to be part of the community-wide garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 8. Doors open at 7 a.m. St. John’s is located at 1700 Summit, at the corner of Hillcrest and Summit.

Stephen Chapel to celebrate Rev. Wallace

GAUSE—Stephen Chapel AME Church, located at 422 E. US 79 in Gause, will celebrate its ninth pastor appreciation service for Rev. Linda M. Wallace at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2.

Elder Robert Jackson of the Perry Memorial Church of God in Christ of Gause will be the guest speaker. Everyone is cordially invited.

Next men’s breakfast at Apostolic Faith

An ecumenical Christian men’s breakfast fellowship is held from 7 to 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the location rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be held on Sept. 11 at Apostolic Faith Church, 500 West Davilla Street.

“All men of the area are invited to attend,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

Thrift store volunteers listed through August

Member churches supply volunteers to work at the Rockdale Christian Services Heavenly Treasures thrift store serving the needy.

Women on Mission elects new officers

Women on Mission of First Baptist Church Rockdale met Aug. 15 for Bible study and a business meeting at the church’s activity center. The Bible study was led by Jane Robinson.

New officers elected are: Ramona Barlow, president; Faye Simpson, vice-president; Ann Sonntag, secretary/treasurer; Jane Robinson, Bible study leader; Elaine Simpson, prayer chairman; Mary Lois Morgan, representative to church council and business meeting; Jane Robinson, Barbara Clark, Elaine Simpson, mission offering promotion; Barbara Clark, association representative.

HOPE group prayer meetings first Sundays

CAMERON—“ Hear Our Prayers Everywhere” (HOPE) hosts a prayer meeting at 3 p.m. each first Sunday of the month on the east side of the Milam County Courthouse in Cameron, spokesperson Debbie Schulze has announced.
