Water and power contracts are keys to pending deal
It might be the end of an era.
If there was actually any of the Alcoa Era in Rockdale left to end.
Alcoa announced last Wednesday it had reached an agreement to sell 34,000 acres of land at its Rockdale Operations site to the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).
Alcoa’s smelter, of course, has been shut down for almost four years. Full Story

School starts Monday for the 2012-13 term in Rockdale and throughout Texas and it ought to look almost the same as the first day in 2011, if estimates are true.
In the Rockdale ISD, an enrollment of 1,574 is forecast, almost identical to the 1,571 who answered the first bell last year. Full Story

City okays reservation system for park pavilions
But ‘first-come, first-serve’ remains in effect
Rockdale City Council on Monday gave first-reading approval to the city’s first-ever ordinance allowing patrons to reserve park pavilions in advance.
Council members also held the second of two public hearings on the proposed 2012-13 tax rate.
No one from the public asked to comment. The city has proposed a 71-cent tax rate, up from 66.9 cents last year. Full Story
