FM 487 or FM 1712 between Rockdale and Minerva. The biggest road project in the Rockdale area in a decade has turned parts of 1712 into dirt roads this summer with more than two months to go before completion. The eight-mile stretch is being rehabilitated, widened and resurfaced from Rockdale to the US 77 turnoff between Mt. Zion and Minerva. The driving surface is being widened from 23 to 28 feet, including shoulders. The project includes frequent lane closures and travel delays through part of its one-lane with a pilot car, routes changing as construction warrants. For those who want to avoid delays, US 77 is the alternate route. Contractor is Big Creek Construction.
