Hays

Funeral services for John Robert “Robbie” Hays Jr., 41, of Rockdale, formerly of Carthage, were held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Segers of Victory Baptist Church in Marshall officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery near Milano.

Mr. Hays died Wednesday, Aug. 15, at his home near Rockdale.

He was born Feb. 1, 1971, in Marshall to Carolyn Ann (Boles) and John Robert Hays Sr.

Mr. Hays was a 1989 graduate of Carthage High School.

He joined the U.S. Army and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He was a sergeant, receiving a good conduct medal, Army commendation medal, Army achievement medal (third award), expert marksmanship medal, qualification badge with rifle bar and driver and mechanic badge with driver T-bar. He completed courses for Bradley fighting vehicle system mechanic, recovery vehicle operation and primary leadership development.

Mr. Hays was a training instructor in CPR, first aid, AED and OSHA.

He had worked construction mainly with mine service companies.

Mr. Hays enjoyed motorcycles and he attended Victory Baptist Church in Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.D. and Jimmie Hays, Joe and Birdie Mae Boles.

Survivors are his parents, John R. and Carolyn Hays of Rockdale; two sisters, Michelle Shuffield and husband Doc of Rockdale, Brandy Nicole Moore and husband Donald of West Haven, Connecticut; a niece, Peyton Shuffield; and two nephews, Donald John Moore and Joshua Ryan Moore; also, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers are; Dickey Hays, Johnny Hays, David Segers, Ethan Segers, Stephen Mayfield, Buddy Shuffield.
