Technically, the long-awaited restoration of the Worley Bridge over the San Gabriel River (County Road 428) is under way. Jamie Griffin, project designer with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), was on the bridge Friday, taking measurements, while a TxDOT-contracted environmental impact crew worked in the river below. West Nile case found in Milam
First one in five years; mosquito control urged
Milam County has recorded a case of the sometimes deadly West Nile Virus, the first confirmed case in the county since 2007.
Michelle Ferguson, Public Health Preparedness Coordinator for the Milam County Health Department, said positive cases are reported automatically to the department by healthcare providers. Full Story

Teachers get service pins as term begins
Thirty Rockdale ISD teachers, and other employees, picked up service pins, or plaques last Wednesday in the annual pre-school year gathering of RISD personnel in the junior-high commons.
The gathering is the traditional “lid lifter” for a new school term and features breakfast, greeting from administrators and introductions of school officials, trustees and others. Full Story

Annual auction raises nearly $8,000 for athletic fund
A gym full of eager bidders and a pantry full of tasty baked goods was the perfect recipe for a successful evening.
The 12th annual “Meet The Tigers” cake auction was held Friday night in Tiger Gymnasium and it raised $7,925 for the athletic program, the most since 2008 when almost $10,000 was raised. Full Story

On the brink of suffering defeat on the road, the Rockdale Lady Tigers rallied for a 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-7 victory over Granger Tuesday night.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to 4-10 on the
