Firewall crashes; none injured
5 downtown buildings damaged; 2 may be razed
A century-plus old firewall between two sets of Rockdale buildings collapsed last Wednesday and Thursday, damaging a half block of businesses and possibly gouging yet another hole in the downtown area.
The brick firewall, which extended about 3-1/2 feet above rooftops, ran north and south above the block bounded by East Cameron (US 79), North Main (FM 908) and two alleys. Full Story

City’s fiscal year ends with building permits over $1 million, again
Remodel projects by retailers spur 2012 total
Books for building permits for the City of Rockdale’s 2011-12 fiscal year have come to a close and numbers are above the $1 million mark, but down slightly from last year.
Permit values total $1,132,505.11 for the just closed fiscal year that began in October 2011. That is down compared to $1,218,841.19 last year. Full Story
