City’s fiscal year ends with building permits over $1 million, again

Remodel projects by retailers spur 2012 total

Books for building permits for the City of Rockdale’s 2011-12 fiscal year have come to a close and numbers are above the $1 million mark, but down slightly from last year.

Permit values total $1,132,505.11 for the just closed fiscal year that began in October 2011. That is down compared to $1,218,841.19 last year.

Values at the end of the 2010 fiscal year were at $1,046,927.

Major contributors to the building permits included a $286,000 remodel of Rockdale’s Walmart Supercenter and the $100,000 remodel of the former Dollar General building to welcome the soon to open Aaron’s Furniture Store.

Permit numbers were actually down for the month, with $144,000 issued in August, compared to $175,552 in July.

The 2012 calendar year total is now at $1,037,455.11.

Permits are issued at City Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.

Permits issued for the month of August were: Debault Welding for Manor Oaks Nursing Home, 600 S. Wilcox, awning (12x12); Victor Carrasco, 310 N. Houston, remodel-add on; John Shoemake, 1000 Rockdale Road, driveway; EBCO Development for Dana Caffey, 516 W. Cameron Ave., remodel.

Also, Butch Malone for Murray Street Church of Christ, 1301 Murray, add on (44x41); Done Right Roofing for One Stop Center, 313 N. Main, re-roof; Green Brothers for Frank Buford, 1703 Murray, patio (11x14); HCCAA for Erika Munoz, 604 San Gabriel, roof.
