Tomato recipes due next week for booklet

Be a part of the 100 Year Celebration of Girls Tomato Clubs in Texas. In celebration of the 100 Years of 4-H History, Milam County is collecting recipes containing tomatoes. A recipe booklet will be prepared and be available during the National 4-H Celebration of Tomato Clubs in Texas on Oct. 9 in Cameron.

Send your recipes labeled with your name to the Milam County Extension Office or email with the subject line “Tomato recipe.”

Look through your recipe boxes and submit your favorite recipes by Sept. 14.

DIABETES SERIES—If you have diabetes, your goal is to manage your glucose levels (sugar). Going to a five-part series called “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” is just what you need to learn to manage your diabetes and reduce your health risks.

The upcoming “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” five-part series is for the persons with Type II Diabetes as well as interested family members. When the family understands the nutritional and medical issues of diabetes, they are able to help the diabetic manage their diabetes.

The series will be conducted at the Bea’s Kitchen, 101 E. Main Street, in Cameron. Classes will be taught on the following Wednesdays from 2-4:30 p.m.: Sept. 19, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 10 and Oct. 24. Each session will cover a different topic relating to nutritional and medical concerns of Type 2 Diabetes.

Some of the major topics are: glucose testing; diabetes and exercise; nutritional meal planning; proper serving sizes; nutritional labeling; health checkups; foot care; preventing complications; and eating out.

Mark your calendars to attend each “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” series to help you manage your diabetes or understand what is happening with family members with diabetes.

SUPPORT GROUP—Diabetics support group meetings give diabetics an opportunity to share concerns and successes in managing their diabetes. It also gives diabetics an opportunity to keep up with the updates on diabetes management.

On Thursday, Sept. 13 a Diabetic Support Group meeting will be held from 2-3 p.m. at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron. Information will be provided about upcoming classes as well as a recipe or two to help you manage your diabetes. Join us and keep yourself motivated.
