Many events approaching for this fall
Deedra Jacob

A s a woman in her day, how inspirational it is to know that with all the confinements she had, Eleanor still found it in her heart to not take her place by the fire and “simply look on.” She wanted to experience life and all it had to offer.

Rockdale has chosen over the past several years to not sit by the fireside as well. Our community has decided not to turn our backs on life and I applaud our efforts. They have not gone unnoticed.

Rockdale is gearing up for a busy fall again this year. There are many events coming up. Here are a few that you won’t want to miss.

DR. ESTELL BOOK—Dr. Lucile Estell has written a book titled, “Images of America– Rockdale.” Many books have been sold but there are still some available. Please stop by the chamber and pick up your copy today.

OUTDOOR EXPO—The Chamber is gearing up for their second annual Central Texas Hunting and Outdoor Expo which will be held Sept.21-22. We are so excited that our feature band this year will be the famous, “Little Texas”. You will not want to miss this event.

We are taking applications for vendors and barbecue teams. So get your spot as soon as possible. You can download applications and look at all the exciting activities planned by going to our website, www.rockdalechamber.com.

KAY FUN RUN—The Kay Theatre will be hosting their seventh annual 5K run on Sept. 29. Check in will be from 7:30–8 a.m. with the Kids Kay starting at 8 a.m. and the main run starting at 8:30. Applications can be picked up at the Chamber.

FAIR TIME—Rockdale Fair will be Oct. 18–20 with the Miss Rockdale Pageant on Oct. 13. More information to follow soon.

TRADE DAYS—The first annual El Camino Real Trade Days will be Oct. 27–28. This new event will highlight the El Camino Trails and will be a weekend full of unique vendors centered at Apache Pass and spreading out between Cameron, Rockdale and Thorndale.

We are excited about the future of this event and know it will be an asset to Milam County. Applications to be a vendor are now available at the Rockdale Chamber.

I hope you all have a great week. Deedra Jacob is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce president. Email her at djacob@rockdalechamber.com or phone 446-2030.
