Only one of ‘worst’ hurricanes in last 55 years
With Hurricane Isaac still fresh in our minds, and Texas, obviously, a hurricane prone state, I went looking for a list of the worst hurricanes of all time and got several big surprises.
In the top 10 hurricanes, measured by loss of life, only one happened in the last 57 years.

‘Americans’ Creed’ should be memorized by all
A re you familiar with the American Creed? William Tyler Page wrote the creed in 1917 as a contest entry and the United States adopted the American Creed in 1918.
In my view, it should be memorized by all of us. School children could recite it upon opening the school day just after the pledge of allegiance to the American flag and the Texas state flag.

‘Here we go again’ with 2013 budget year
Monday at commissioners court we adopted the 2013 County Budget and set the county tax rate at 60 cents per $100.
Over the past few weeks I’ve put on the full court press to try to communicate as much as possible in these articles, in community meetings, on the web site, and in public hearings concerning the tax rate and the budget. Full Story

I f everyone was eating a healthy diet it would mean: selecting nutritious foods; controlling the portion sizes for meals and snacks; and reducing fat, sodium and sugar in our diet.
