Progress reports out soon

Superintendent, Milano ISD

I t’s hard to believe we are in September. The cool front we are experiencing is a welcome relief to the 100-plus degree temperatures to which we have recently been subjected. It’s great to go outside in the mornings with the temperature in the 60s. As the weather turns cooler it means football and homecoming.

Our homecoming football game is this Friday, Sept. 14 against the Iola Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Crowning of the homecoming queen take place at half time. We will be having a bonfire and pep rally on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. near the softball field. Come out and support the Eagles and enjoy the festivities.

Additional festivities will continue on Saturday, with the Milano Alumni Association hosting the all exes reunion, which will be held in the Milano Civic Center. A catered meal consisting of roast beef with all the trimmings will be available. The meal will be catered by Steve and Rebecca Telg of Milano. The alumni association does a great job of hosting the reunion and proceeds raised help provide scholarships to our graduates. I hope you are able to come out and enjoy a day of fun, fellowship and great food.

Speaking of great food, later Saturday evening more great food will be available at the Milano Opry. The Opry will be performing at the Milano High School Cafetorium. This is a great way to spend Saturday evening listening to talented singers and musicians while benefiting our students in the form of scholarships. Come out for a great evening of fun and support the Opry and our students. Our faculty, staff and students have the school year up and running smoothly. Classroom rules, practices and procedures have been established by the teachers and administrators. At the end of this week, we will have completed the first three weeks of school, which means we will be sending home progress reports on all of our students.

I encourage you to closely review your child’s progress reports with them, and, if necessary schedule a conference with your child’s teacher. You can also closely monitor your child’s progress throughout the school year via txConnect. TxConnect is a secure online system where parents and guardians can review student grades.

Our teachers keep student grades in an electronic gradebook and are encouraged to post grades on a regular basis thereby keeping all students classroom performance current and available for parents to review.

To access from the Milano ISD website,, click on the “Parents” tab located on the left hand side of the home screen. From there, click on txConnect-Parent Portal for Grade access, which is located in the middle of the page. If you need help in setting up an account, you can click on the Signup Instructions for txConnect located under the txConnect– Parent Portal for Grade access.

Any account that is not logged into for 90 days will be automatically deleted for inactivity. So if you had an account last year and didn’t log in during the summer you will need to get the portal number from your child’s campus secretary and re-create a new account.
