Ex-students reunion, meal Saturday at civic center

T he annual Milano Ex-Students Association reunion and luncheon will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Milano Civic Center. A catered meal by The Crossing (Steve and Rebecca Telg and Richard and Jennifer Mueck) will be served at noon and include roast beef, green beans and potatoes.

Cost is $11 per plate with takeouts available. Desserts will include bread pudding and peach cobbler.

Don’t forget to bring your items for the silent and live auctions to be held as well. They can be brought the morning of the reunion. All proceeds go to scholarships.

The annual homecoming pep rally and bonfire will be held starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the high school. This year’s Project Graduation group will sell hot dog meal deals with hot dog, chips and a drink.

The homecoming football game will be held Friday night when the Eagles host the Iola Bulldogs. The 2012 MHS homecoming queen will be named during halftime of the game.

The senior homecoming queen nominees are Kiersten Bastow, Stonie Guthrie, Brianna Roth and Raighley Shaw. Class duchesses are junior Kelly Jo Wadlington, sophomore Alyssa Roth and freshman Keely LaGrone. Congratulations to all the beautiful young ladies.

Milano Opry will hit the stage on Saturday for its monthly show. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 in the MHS cafetorium. Costs is $7 per person with children 10 and under getting in free.

Special guests this month are Kevin Carter and Paula Fleming. House band members are Michael Herod, Ab Woods, Michael Wall, Billy Barnett, Johnny Foster and Lynn Martin.

Don’t forget to go early and enjoy hamburgers, barbecue sandwiches and homemade pies.

The Milam County Health Department will hold a flu shot clinic in Milano on Friday, Oct. 5. Flu shots will be available from 9-11:30 a.m. at the community center, across from the post office downtown.

The annual Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary fall garage sale will be held Oct. 4-6 at the Milano Civic Center/Fire Station. The sale will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4-5 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6.

The ladies are now accepting donations. You can contact them now or wait to take it to the civic center starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1.

A huge thank you to everyone who went out and supported the third annual Kristi’s Krusaders “Rally for the Walk” Walk MS 2012 event on Saturday. The group raised $12,007 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Winners of the “ladies’ choice” bike show were: Anthony Morrison, first; Gregg Moore, second; Nathan Arbuckle, third. JoAnn Restino won the drawing for the $400 Academy gift card and Sonny Paredes won the $250 Lowe’s gift card.

The Milano PATCH Club has started collection of the “Box Tops for Education” that gets free money for our schools. The group’s goal is $1,000 which in turn means 10,000 box tops. If you have any you can turn them in at either school campus office or to any PATCH Club member.
