Reporter/Cliff Dungan While no District 18-3A team is exactly setting the world on fire, it would appear that the three playoff possibilities are up for grabs as league play gets underway this Friday.

Only College Station (16-11) and Caldwell (12-7) sport winning records as the Cougars inaugurate their first district competition as a first-year school with their roster of seven sophomores and five freshmen.

College Station has dropped three straight coming in, while Caldwell has captured four of its last five.

The Rockdale Lady Tigers are aiming for one of the trio of post season berths (it would be their second in the past 13 years) and Coach Jason Williams is confident his squad is experienced enough to pull it off.

“I think we have learned what is needed for us to do better in district than the previous year,” he said. “ The team this year works well together and that will be our anchor throughout district play.”

The Lady Tigers open district play on the road at Navasota (6-23) Friday.

Rockdale had one final tuneup Tuesday night by hosting Hempstead and came away with a come-from-behind 17-25, 25-10, 25-15, 25-18 victory to improve to 7-12 on the season.

Middle blocker Shelby Evans paved the way with 11 kills, six assists and six digs.

Morgan Laughlin contributed 10 kills and 13 digs, while Amanda Boyd dished off 28 assists and Lisa Vest five kills and assists.
