Three accidents probed on Rockdale area roads

State troopers were called to three traffic accidents in the Rockdale area during the past week, according to the DPS, as follows:

• 9:25 a.m. Friday, FM 1712 and US 77, drivers Rebecca Bonney, 19, Rockdale; Edgar Reyes-Hernandez, 30, Taylor; Renee Mueck, 54, Cameron; moderate to extensive damages, Mueck treated at Central Texas Hospital, Cameron.

• 12:05 a.m. Sunday, CR 358, south of Gause, driver Dakota Grandchamp, 17, Gause, extensive damage, driver treated at College Station Medical Center.

• 2 a.m. Friday, FM 487 northwest of Rockdale, driver Cort Fitzpatrick, 24, Rockdale, moderate damage, no injuries.

Milam Democrats plan ‘Take Back Texas’ forum

The Milam County Democratic Party will hold a “Take Back Tuesday” event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Patterson Civic Center.

The event is being organized through Milam County’s African American churches, county chair Richard Stone said.

“This event will focus on minority issues and also include representatives of state and national campaigns,” he said.

“All local Democratic candidates are expected to participate and the evening will include representatives of state and national campaigns,” he said.

Third annual ‘Ride for the Cure’ Oct. 6th

Bikers, start your engines.

The third annual “Ride for the Cure” benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be held Oct. 6, beginning and ending at Cliff’s Tavern, 218 North Main Street in Rockdale.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the first bike out at 11 a.m. and the last bike in at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per rider ($25 with passenger) and the fee includes a meal.

Best bike, hot rod and antique car will be honored and everyone is welcome, said Mark Clark, spokesman. Sponsors are needed. The day will include a 50/50 drawing and an auction.

Chili will go on sale at 11 a.m. for $5 and event shirts will be available.

Luminant advisory panel slates Oct. 8th meeting

CAMERON—The Luminant Community Advisory Panel (LCAP) will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the fellowship hall of Cameron First United Methodist Church, according to Diane Sheridan, spokesperson.

Topics include updates on power plants, the Three Oaks Mine and the annual emissions report.

Flu clinics continue at Milam locations

The Milam County Health Department continues its series of flu clinics next week, according to Diane Leftwich, spokesperson.

She listed remaining clinics as follows:

• 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, Milano Community Center (across from post office).

• 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, Thorndale Senior Citizens Center.

Cost is free to persons on Medicare Part B (bring card). Cost to all other adults is $20, she said.

MDD board to meet Thursday at City Hall

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, according to Tom Manskey, executive director.

Agenda items include Kay Theatre grant application, incentive program, downtown design guidelines, strategic economic development plan and a vision statement for Rockdale Vision 2022.

POSGCD directors set amendment hearing

MILANO—The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) will hold a public hearing on amendments to its management plan at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Milano Civic Center, Gary Westbrook, district manager, said.

According to the POSGCD, the amendments were suggested by the Texas Water Development Board.

The POSGCD board will consider amending the management plan at the board meeting following the public hearing.

A copy of the management plan, with the proposed amendments, can be accessed at the district website, www.posgcd.org, or can be obtained from the district at PO Box 92, Milano, TX, 76556.

Thorndale council okays 2012 tax rate

THORNDALE—City council members in Thorndale met Monday and adopted an 82.36-cent tax rate for 2012, down from the current 84 cents.

The council also okayed a $1,124,450 budget and raised the base water rates from $15.50 to $16.50 and $1 to $1.25 for subsequent 1,000 gallons.

La Escuelita cookoff scheduled Oct. 6th

The annual fall menudo-chilibeef/ chicken/pork cookoff at La Escuelita is set for Oct. 6 at the La Escuelita grounds east of the KCHall on US 79.

Entry fee is $15 per category. There will be horseshoe and washer tourneys with a $10 entry fee.

Cookoffs start at noon with breakfast tacos sold from 8 to 10 a.m. and a variety of food sold beginning at 11.
