Post-game ‘5th Quarter’ Friday at Meadowbrook

Meadowbrook Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (across from the main entrance of Rockdale High School)) hosts “5th Quarter” youth fellowships immediately following varsity football home games this season.

“These events are for students 6th through 12th grades, and everyone is invited,” said Ryan Warner, youth minister at Meadowbrook.

Next men’s breakfast Oct. 9, Presbyterian

An ecumenical Christian men’s breakfast fellowship is held from 7 to 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the location rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be held on Oct. 9 at First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue.

“All men of the area are invited to attend,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.

Women of Wisdom retreat set for Oct. 27

Women of Wisdom (WOW) will hold its first annual women’s retreat on Saturday, Oct. 27, sponsored by Gospel of Life Church. Retreat theme will be “Do you know God?”

Speakers will be Pastor Ann Rios, Pastor Shirley Lange and Pastor Adelfa Davis.

Pre-registration will be held through Oct. 18 and there is no fee. Schedule for the Oct. 27 retreat:

8 a.m., registration; 9 a.m., opening prayer, praise and worship; 9:30 a.m., Pastor Rios; 10:15 a.m., break for Q&A; 10:30 a.m., break into discussion groups; 11:15 a.m., Pastor Lange; noon, lunch break; 1 p.m., praise and worship; 1:20, Pastor Davis; 2:05, break into discussion groups; 2:40, final break; 3 p.m., altar call and closing prayer.

Pleasant Retreat UMC chili supper Saturday

THORNDALE— Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church will host its annual chili supper starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept 29.

Chili will be sold by the pint, quart or bowl, along with hot dogs, Frito pie, ice cream, pies, cakes and cookies.

The event will also include a live auction.

To get to the church from Thorndale, go 7.5 miles south on FM 486 and turn left on County Road 458. There is a church sign 1/4 mile on the right.

Steel Magnolias concert set Sunday at Marlow

CAMERON—The Steel Magnolias will be in concert at Marlow Baptist Church, 1794 CR 229, Cameron, on Sunday, Sept. 30th, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“This group of inspirational women will be presenting the entire morning worship service with their exciting choreographed gospel music,” said Carolyn Tate, spokesperson. The public is invited.

Event for Women set October 1 at First Baptist

A special event for women called “Yours Truly” is planned for Monday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. “This is an event for women for fun, food and interactive demos including handcrafting, gardening, beauty, cooking and more,” said Dolores Sonntag, spokesperson.

The event will be held on the first Monday of each month at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church. Dress is casual and childcare will be provided. FMI: 446-5375.

Youth Rally Saturday at Milano Barn Church

MILANO—Barn Church of Milano, 733 Holdiness Lane, will host a youth rally Saturday, Sept. 29, pastor Chad LaGrone announced. A hot dog meal will be served at 6 p.m. with music beginning at 7.

“All youth of Milam County and the surrounding areas are invited,” LaGrone said.

‘Old-fashioned singing’ set at San Gabriel Baptist

SAN GABRIEL—An old-fashioned gospel singing is set at San Gabriel Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 29 beginning at 6 p.m., according to church clerk Eunice Stigall.

The evening will consist of congregational singing, solos and instrumental specials of conventional and contemporary gospel music. The music of Bill Gaither, Albert Brumley and Fannie Crosby will be featured.

Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the singing. Everyone is invited to participate, Stigall added.

The church is located at 263 County Road 421A in the community of San Gabriel, six miles north of Thorndale just off FM 486 North. Tim Cheatham is pastor.

Women on Mission hold Bible study

Women on Mission of First Baptist Church met Sept. 19 in the Family Life Center for Bible study, led by Jane Robinson.

Attending, in addition to the leader, were Faye Simpson, Elaine Simpson, Barbara Clark, Jane Darwin, Ramona Barlow, Ann Sonntag, Mary Lois Morgan, Margaret Caffey and Gladys Roberts.
