Schneider team roping, cookoff set for Oct. 5-6

SALTY—The 17th annual Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Team Roping and Chili Cookoff will be held Oct. 5-6 at the Joey & Phyllis Hiney Ranch Arena, Thorndale (Salty Community), according to organizer Richard Schneider.

Friday night entertainment includes a three-person Steer Saddling Jackpot Contest, plus a two-person Calf Dressing Contest. The Steer Saddling Contest will start at 8 p.m. and Calf Dressing to follow. Steer Saddling is $50 per team. Calf Dressing is $30 per team.

On Saturday, team roping and chili cookoff jackpot events will be held. Cost is $50 per team for chili and $25 for beans. Teams may enter multiple times. There is a 70-percent pay back in chili and beans. Electricity is not provided.

All proceeds go to the Maggie Schneider Memorial Scholarship Fund.

LRBMGA taking new class applications

CAMERON—The Texas AgriLife Extension Office and Little River Basin Master Gardener Association (LRBMGA) are sponsoring classes for those wanting to learn more about gardening or those wanting to become a certified Master Gardener.

Classes will be held on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, beginning mid-January and culminating with a graduation ceremony in mid-May.

The fee for the class is $150, which includes The Master Gardener Handbook, a valuable reference manual each class member will get to keep. The fee also includes one soil sample test, field trip fees, speaker fees, materials for class, a name badge and graduation luncheon.

Thorndale Ag Boosters holding quilt fund-raiser

THORNDALE—Thorndale FFA and 4-H Ag Boosters are selling tickets for a Thorndale Bulldog T-shirt quilt (queen size) to be given away at the Nov. 9 Thorndale-Holland game.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and may be purchased at any home Thorndale football games or at the Thorndale branch of Rockdale Federal Credit Union.
