Kay Theatre Run is Saturday

Event has raised $53,000 toward restoration efforts

The seventh annual Kay Theatre Walk/Run/Unrun will unreel Saturday, beginning at the theatre, corner of Main and Davilla downtown.

The annual event raises funds for restoration of the 1940s-era theatre as a community center and performing arts venue.

Last year’s event rasied $5,000 and the six-year total is $53,000.

Outside of the theatre has been completed and work continues on the inside.

KIDS RUN—For the fifth straight year, a short children’s “Kids Kay” dash will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K run and walk at 8:30.

The “un-run” allows persons who don’t wish to run or walk to support the event. Un-runners pay an entry fee and sit and cheer the participants.

The Communities in Concert Band will again provide music for the event. ­ Entry blanks are available on The Reporter’s website, rockdalereporter.com.

AGES, PRIZES—The

Kids Kay run is for youth ages 6-13. It loops a fourcity block area. No barefoot running is allowed and runners’ shoes must be tied.

Age divisions, in both male and female categories, are as follows (ages as of Sept. 28, 2012):

Pre-Kay Dash— 6-7, 8- 9, 10-11, 12-13.

5K Walk/Run—19-and-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60- 69, super seniors (70 and above).

Prizes include $100 cash, a gift basket and trophy to the overall male and female runners. Awards will also be presented to the top three finishers in the run, walk and Kids Kay divisions in each age group.

Registration for the Kids Kay is $8 per participant before Saturday and $10 on race day.

Registration for the 5K and “Unrun” is $15 before and $20 on race day.

All registered entrants receive a T-shirt and snacks.

Last year’s winners were Juan Rubio of Rockdale in the men’s division and Jen Plair of Caldwell in the women’s division.

Seventy-five persons participated in the 2011 fun run.
