Lady Tigers dump Ducks for first district victory

Spikers fight back from early deficit to tame Taylor

Reporter/Cliff Dungan Fighting back from a first set loss, the Rockdale Lady Tigers rebounded for an 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-24 victory over Taylor at Tiger Gymnasium, their first in District 18-3A play.

After a district opening loss to Navasota, the Lady Tigers stand 8-13 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Middle blockers Shelby Evans and Lisa Vest clogged up the middle against the Lady Ducks (5-25, 0-2) posting double digit kills.

Evans pounded out 15 kills, six blocks and recorded 13 digs, while Vest pulled the trigger on 10 kills and eight digs.

Morgan Laughlin had seven kills and 17 digs, while Amanda Boyd dished off 31 assists and 10 digs, Emily McCoy 17 assists and Morgan Fischer 20 digs and two assists.

Rockdale fell to Navasota (8-23, 2-0) in a hard fought district opener 25-22, 26-28, 27-25, 25-20.

Evans picked up seven kills, 14 digs and three blocks, while Vest had six kills, two blocks and two assists.

Fischer had 12 digs and three aces, Laughlin 16 digs, Wright 12 digs and Boyd 16 assists.

In junior varsity act ion, the Lady Tigers defeated Taylor behind Jodi Carpenter’s 22 served points.

They also defeated Navasota behind Macie Vann’s nine servive points and Kalli Hicks eight points.

The freshmen fell to both Navasota and Taylor, with Jaycee Parsley’s 22 combined points and Kaybee Nelson’s six.
