POSGCD to resume Alcoa water hearing Tuesday

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) will reconvene  its public hearing on the request by Alcoa to pump 25,000 acre-feet of water per year during a 5:30 p.m Tuesday in the Milano Civic Center.

POSGCD has added that item, plus possible action on the application itself, to the agenda of a meeting originally scheduled to amend the district's management plan.

On Sept. 11 over 100 persons crowded into the civic center for a public hearing, most of them in opposition to the requests. Alcoa wants to drill 24 new water wells and  increase pumping from 32 existing wells.

That hearing was recessed in order to give Alcoa and land owner Jim McDaniel a chance to work out differences over the permit.
