KAY’S FIRST CONCERT
It wasn’t billed as the renovated Kay Theatre’s first concert but the volunteer Communities in Concert Band did themselves proud Saturday, providing music for the seventh annual Run for the Kay 5K Run which unreeled outside under rainy skies. The band received enthusiastic applause for its music which showed the old theater’s acoustics are still on point for future events. Full Story
Eight draw terms in 20th District Court
CAMERON—Eight persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court of Milam County, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears.
She listed case dispositions as follows:
• Larry Morris Sandles Jr., 40, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to evading arrest with a motor vehicle, two-year state jail term. Full Story
Rockdale volunteer firefighters answered two residence fires in two days Sunday and Monday. This 9:54 a.m. Sunday alarm called the RVFD to a trailer in Shady Grove RV Park on West Cameron (US 79) near the western cit limits. Fire Chief Warren Matous said the structure was gutted by the blaze, which is believed to have started in an electrical connection. Full Story
Wariner, Restless Heart make return apperarances to Fair
Don’t mess with success.
Chances are great that the Rockdale Fair headliner for 2012 will be met with huge, appreciative crowds.
It’s happened before. Steve Wariner headlined the Fair in 1985. Restless Heart appeared in 2008.
Wariner will be the Fair’s Saturday night headliner Oct. 20 for an 8:45 p.m. to 1 a.m. dance at the par pavilion. Full Story

MVFD Auxiliary fall sale this weekend at civic center
The annual Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary fall garage sale will be held Oct. 4-6 at the Milano Civic Center/Fire Station. The sale will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4-5 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6. Full Story
There were a lot of “starrs” present when the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for 5-Starr Car Wash, 1771 West Cameron (US 79), on Monday. It’s open and will hold its grand opening Saturday. (See ad page 6A). Charles and Kevin Starr snipped the ribbon Monday as family, friends and Chamber of Commerce officials looked on. Full Story
A major road project on Cypress Trail Loop south of US 79, was completed last week, according to Jeff Muegge, Precinct 4 commissioners. Muegge said a large culvert was replaced just south of the Union Pacific railroad tracks. Several drainage projects have been completed in the Rockdale area in recent weeks. Full Story
Westbrook back on staff
Kim Westbrook has re-joined the staff of dental professionals at Larry Don Jones, DDS.
Westbrook, registered dental assistant, worked for Jones previously, from 1988 to 2006. She then moved to West Texas with her family. Full Story
