RISD mandatory sub training time change

A mandatory training for all new and returning Rockdale ISD substitute teachers will be from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the RISD conference room. This training will include processes for the new automated substitute service Rockdale ISD is implementing this year.

Individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers must attend this training in order to qualify for the substitute list.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and provide consent to a criminal background check. Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office prior to the training.

Accountability ratings hearing set Monday

Rockdale ISD will hold a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 in the RISD board room located in the district’s Administration Building at 520 W. Davilla, for the purpose of:

In 2011 Rockdale Junior High School and Rockdale High School were rated Academically Unacceptable (AU) under the state accountability system.

Agenda items include:

• Discussion and consideration of School Improvement Plans for Rockdale Junior High School and Rockdale High School.

• Public comments on the report.

RISD iTigers to offer teen grief support group

The Rockdale ISD iTigers Program will offer a grief support group for teens ages 12-18 who are coping with the loss of a family member or close friend. The group is open to those who are just beginning the grief journey as well as those who have been on it for awhile.

The goal is to find healing through an oppor tunity to ask questions and share with peers who are going through the same experience.

The group with meet from 6-7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of the month beginning Nov. 1 in the Rockdale High School library. There is no charge and refreshments will be served.

MISD Project Grad dinner set Friday

MILANO— Milano High School Project Graduation will sponsor a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings and dessert on Friday, Oct. 12 before the Eagles’ football game with Burton.

The dinner will be held in the elementary cafeteria, behind the football field, with serving starting at 5 p.m. Cost is $7 per plate.

PTO sets trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31

Rockdale PTO has also set trick-ortreat hours for Halloween, according to club president Cheryl Blackstock. They will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The PTO’s annual fall festival is set for Friday, Nov. 2 at the Rockdale Intermediate School. The event will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

RJH band accepting instrument donations

Rockdale Junior High’s music department is accepting donations of musical instruments, according to assistant director Les Huff.

The band would “adopt” the horn, then distribute them to students according to financial need. Instruments can be dropped off at the high school or RJH.

Spots open on RISD educational councils

Rockdale ISD has several openings on its four different educational councils at each of its four campuses, according to assistant superintendent for instruction, Pam Kaufmann.

There are openings for one community representative, one business representative and two parent representatives to serve on the Elementary Campus Educational Council; two community representatives and two business representatives to serve on the Intermediate Campus Educational Council.

Also one community representative to serve on the Junior High Campus Educational Council; one parent representative, one community representative and one business representative to serve on the High School Campus Educational Council.

Representatives from these groups will be selected to serve on the Campus Educational Councils by the principals and other Council members.

Parent representatives must have students enrolled on the campus for which they apply. Community representatives must reside in Rockdale ISD, be at least 18 years old and cannot be the parent of a student currently enrolled in the district. Business representatives must own or operate a business, but the business does not have to be located in Rockdale ISD. Parent, community and business representatives cannot be employees of Rockdale ISD.

Applications can be picked up or requested from the elementary, intermediate, junior high or high school offices. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, Oct. 5.

Campus and District Educational Councils serve as advisory groups to the principals and superintendent, but have no regulatory powers.
