Former semi-pro football player Posey to speak at RHS event

Rockdale ISD iTigers program will host speaker Rene’ Posey on Tuesday, Oct. 16 as part of the “Lights on Afterschool” program, a national Afterschool Alliance promotion, highlighting the importance of afterschool programs, such as Rockdale’s iTigers ACE Program, RHS iTigers coordinator Denice Doss announced.

Posey will speak to parents on “Top 10 Things Kids Don’t Want Their Parent to Know” beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the RHS cafeteria. Posey is a former college and semipro football player and has taken to heart the value of students and their education.

“His past sports experiences, coupled with his quick wit and knowledge of the educational process as well as his compassion for all children has made him a valuable tool in assuring that all of our children have an equal opportunity of establishing a firm educational foundation,” Doss said. “He addresses students’ academic, social, emotional, relational and societal well being.”

Posey is set to talk with junior high and high school students from 4-5 p.m. and then with parents from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Some of the topic area include self-awareness, communication gap, choice of friends, drug and alcohol awareness, sexting and cutting, among other.

Doss said the event will also include a “cookie bake-off,” with the students providing the judging of parents’ homemade baked goods. Interested contestants need to have two dozen of their cookies to the RHS cafeteria by 2 p.m. that day with their name and contact information and child’s name.

This event is for all RISD parents. Babysitting will be provided for young children and game room will be open for junior high and high school students during the parent session.
