Prayer vigil for two-year-old ahead on Friday
St. John’s United Methodist Church will hold a 12-hour prayer vigil from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday for two-year old Dustin John Pickel and his family, the day he has surgery at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City.
Dustin has a malignant neuroblastoma in his abdomen next to his kidney. He has endured five rounds of chemotherapy and the tumor has been reduced to operable size.
Dustin is the son of Kelly and Jeff Pickel of Round Rock. He has an older brother Braden, age 5, who recently started kindergarten, and a baby brother, Collin Lane, almost one.
Grandparents are Sharon and John Shoemake of Rockdale and Sherry and Tim Pickel of Meredith, New Hampshire.
Uncles and aunts are Kirby and Kristy Shoemake of Georgetown and Beth and Pierre Doda of Meredith. Special great aunt is Wenda Dyer of Rockdale.
The public is invited to join St. John’s members in prayer for Dustin’s successful surgery, recovery and healing, Rev. Rita Sims, St. John’s pastor, said.
