Gause 4-H Club collecting coats, blankets for needy

For the month of October, the Gause 4-H Club will conduct a coat and blanket drive as their Community Service Project and they ask the community to be a part of this service to those in need. It is asked that the coats and blankets be gently used and laundered. You can get your donation to Wanda Lee and if you need more info call her at 979-279-2472.

The club met for its monthly meeting Oct. 2. It was conducted by president Seth Vinton. After the flag pledges and 4-H motto and prayer Abbigail Miller read minutes from Sept. meeting. Calla Vinton gave the treasurer report.

Members and adult leaders made final plans for the annual Fall Carnival fund-raiser to be held in the Gause ISD gym on Saturday, Oct. 27th with games for the kids beginning at 5 p.m.

The concession stand will be opening at that time also. Soon after 6 p.m. there will be the annual costume contest for the youngsters. The auction will then begin around 7 p.m. Members and parents are getting items together for the auction. If you would like to donate to this cause it will be appreciated.

This fund- raiser is ver y important to the club because money raised at this yearly activity helps send our 4-H members to the various 4-H activities that they have opportunities to attend.

Several Gause 4-H members and parents are in Cameron this past Sunday to take part in the annual Milam County 4-H Celebration in Cameron. Abbigail Olson received the County Achievement Rookie Award, Garrett Reed and Robert Miller II the Clover Novice and Abbigail Miller the Honor Roll.

Cameron Cooper, Connelly Cooper, Kendall Lee, Abbigail Miller, Robert Miller and Garrett Reed received 4- H Record book Awards. Gause ISD received a 4-H appreciation award. Phillip Rasco was recognized as a Milam County 2012 Graduating Senior. Phillip also received his 4-H jacket as being a first time state winner. Repeat state winners from the Gause Club were Cameron Cooper, Connelly Cooper, Jaxon Hayles, Kendall Lee and Calla Vinton. Seth Vinton, Cameron Cooper and Seth Vinton each had a part on the program.

Gause Club Top Supporter Award went to Wanda and Alfred Coats, owners of Coats Grocery and Top Leader Award went to Martha Newman.

Gause 4-H Club was wel l represented in club members participating in Milam County 4-H activities this past 4-H year.

It is time for interested youth to get signed-up for the 2012- 13 4-H year. Cost is $20 until October 31 and $25 after that date. This need to be done on the internet. For more info you may call the Milam County Extension Of f ice at 254- 697 -7045.

Next Gause Junior High girls volleyball game will be Oct. 15 at Allen Academy in Bryan beginning at 5 p.m. Cross country members will be participating in a race in Franklin on Saturday.

Time to start thinking about the annual community Thanksgiving dinner that will be held in the Gause Baptist Church Family Life Center on Sunday, Nov. 11 with serving beginning at 11 am. This is open to all of the community and it is free to you. Ladies are asked to bring a dessert.

Second six-weeks has started. And it seems there have been a number of students out with allergies, etc. Hope all are well enough to get back soon.

Soccer games will be played in Cameron this week.
