Early voting will begin Monday for Nov. 6 ballot
Seven county contests and presidential race key voter interest
Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election, which features the presidential contest and seven contested county level or below races, begins Monday in Rockdale and three other locations throughout the county.
Rockdale’s location is the Juvenile Justice Center, located just north of the city limits on FM 487 (Ackerman Street). Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Oct 31. Full Story

McCoy new Miss Rockdale Fair
Steinbecker, Jerman runners-up at 35th annual pageant
Emily McCoy, a 17-year-old junior at Rockdale High School, was crowned Miss Rockdale Fair 2012 Saturday before a crowd of more than 600 in the Rockdale High School auditorium.
First runner-up at the annual pageant was Allyson Steinbecker and second runner up was Jacey Jerman. Full Story

Taylor wins in third OT as old rivalry resumes with a nail-biter
TAYLOR— A rivalry which thought it had seen everything finally saw everything Friday at Taylor’s Memorial Field.
Taylor scatback Isaac Franco started left, then cut back and raced into the end zone for a 7-yard TD run in the third overtime, lifting the Ducks to a 34-28 victory that ranks among the most exciting in the series’ storied nine-decade history. Full Story

Rockdale could see a path to the post-season with a win over Madisonville when the Tigers host the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tiger Field.
But it’s tough to see one if RHS loses.
Rockdale and Madisonville each come into the game 0-1 in district play—Rockdale is 3-4 and Madisonville 4-3 on the year—but Friday’s game means more to Big Blue. Full Story

Tax rebates still up in Rockdale
Milam’s allocation check total down for October compared to 2011
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in September was $1.96 billion, up 11.6 percent compared to September 2011.
Combs sent out $551 million in October local sales tax allocations last week to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. That is up 9.1 percent compared to the same time in 2011. Full Story

Rockdale Downtown Association will host its annual meeting on Monday, Nov. 5, according to RDA president Chris Dyess.
The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Patterson Civic Center.
