El Camino Real Trade Days being rescheduled

El Camino Real committee members have decided to postpone their planned first Trade Days from its original date of Oct. 27-28.

“We thought we needed more time,” Kit Worley, committee spokesperson said. “We postponed it to be sure we do this thing right.”

Worley also said the group’s website took longer to get up and going than first thought.

The new date will be sometime in the spring of 2013. “We will have the exact new dates announced by Nov. 15,” Worley said.

GMA12 planning session set for Thursday, Oct. 18

MILANO—Groundwater Management Area 12, which includes the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) will gather for a planning session at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Milano Community and Civic Center.

Groundwater districts are required by their enabling legislation to conduct joint public planning sessions to discuss their “desired future conditions” and other aspects of water management.

Warehouse of Horrors scheduled Oct. 26-27

The annual Halloween Warehouse

of Horrors, the year’s major fund-raiser for Milam County Crime Stoppers, is set for Oct. 26 and 27 at First Street in Cameron. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children and doors open at 7 p.m. each night, Shane Epperson, CrimeStoppers president, said. “The Warehouse has been refurbished, has new monsters and masks and will not be unveiled until opening night,” he said.

Troopers probe wrecks in South Milam County

State Troopers were called to two roadway accidents in South Milam County during the past week.

Trooper Broderick Sims said a vehicle operated by Ethel Seelig, 79, of Rockdale, overturned at 4:20 p.m. Thursday on FM 486 east of Thorndale

Sims said the driver was treated at Richards Memorial Hospital, Rockdale.

He listed vehicle damages as “extensive.”

Trooper Ernest DelBosque said a vehicle operated by Shelly Akin, 34, collided with a horse at 12:40 a.m. Sunday on FM 487 east of the Davilla community.

He said no injuries were reported and vehicle damages were termed “moderate” by the DPS.

Veterans Day ceremony planned at Tiger Field

The Rockdale ISD wants to honor area veterans in its annual Veterans Day program, set for 1 p.m. Monday Nov. 12 at Tiger Field.

(Nov. 11, traditional date of Veterans Day, falls on a Sunday this year.)

“We need your information, including military branch, rank, the years you served, a photo from your military service and a present photo,” Stephanie Miller said.

Rockdale VFD volunteer crews called out in week

Members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department would have had a busy week even if there weren’t any calls in the line of duty.

The RVFD made several visits to schools and day care centers as part of Fire Prevention Week. (See page 1A).

Calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station were listed as follows:

• 6:20 p.m. Thursday, utility line down, 100 block of South Eighth, Milano, Milano VFD.

• 6:04 p.m. Monday, gas smell at corner of Cedar and Bowser, Rockdale VFD.

• 4:51 a.m. Monday, vehicle hit gas pump, Cefco, Rockdale VFD, see page 1D.
